Full Moon

According to the lunar calendar, the moon will be FULL at 9:18 pm tonight.

Some folks believe that more women go into labor on a full moon. My jury is still out. Come on tides, gravitational pull, lunar happenings- whatever.... DO YOUR THING!

Hope Abides

I have news.
I left something out of my previous post about my Dr appt today. I was planning on asking my "fave" Dr some questions about being induced. Well, as you know, I didn't get to see him today. One of my biggest reasons for inquiring is because they keep saying that this baby is going to be bigger. That statement continues to make me nervous each and every time I hear it spoken. Ava was 6lb 14oz and that was big enough! To spare you the details- I will just say that I was healing for quite some time! Really.

When I was chatting with the Dr that I did see, I decided to ask her. She told me that she wouldn't personally do it and that I would have to ask my "fave" Dr. Did I mention how much I like her? Kidding. Anyway, she agreed to pass along the message to his nurse.

Well, at 5:15 pm I got a call from my Dr office. It was Margo, my "fave" Dr's nurse. She told me that my Dr wants to see me on Monday and that he would be willing to induce me on Tuesday at 6am. WHAT, you are kidding me! I am just excited that I have a slot in place in case we decide it is the right decision. I don't want my baby to get too big that I have to have a c-section. Saying that- I also don't want to get induced before my body is ready and have to have a c-section. So, I guess we'll see. In my book options are good....especially since the days continue to tick by and he's not getting any smaller in there!

Now again, I'm really hoping to go on my own some time this weekend! BUT, I have to tell you that I feel better knowing that Tuesday is an option for induction. I am also excited that I get to see my "fave" Dr on Monday and it sounds like he is most likely going to be the Dr to deliver our son...whether I go this weekend or Tuesday or whenever. Glum has been replaced by glee!

Technicals 3

Well, here I am...writing this post that I was hoping to avoid.
I went to the Dr this morning and the whole experience was very anti-climatic. Not much to report, very minimal change. I am now 2 cm dilated, still 75% effaced.

I had to wait a long time because my Dr got called away for a delivery while I was in the waiting room. I ended up seeing another Dr in the practice who is a bit lacking in the bedside manner department. No big deal really. I was just looking forward to meeting with my Dr who delivered Ava and picking his brain a bit. I like to kid around with him...he's good like that.

Oh well- I think the whole thing has me feeling a bit glum. I can kick it though, I just need to stop thinking that I am "overdue" compared with my last pregnancy. That's silly. Besides, Dean will come when he's good and ready and I just need to be patient!
...and swollen...and uncomfortable...and tired.
STOP IT!

There are a few positives to report. They scheduled my next appt for Tuesday instead of Thursday. I also found out that my "fave" Dr is on call all weekend, so that makes me very happy. Tick...tick...tick...

Today was THE DAY...

Today was the day that Ava was born. Kinda.
Speaking in terms of my own "personal pregnancy calendar" anyway.

I was due 3/28 and I had her 3/17.
11 days early.

I am due 8/24. I thought I might have Dean on 8/13.
11 days early.

That would be logical thinking. I think.
However, it's been whispered that I am starting to lose reason.

Tomorrow is uncharted pregnancy water for me.
I hope that full moon thing doesn't let me down!

7 Day Forecast

So, I caught a glimpse of the 7-day forecast on the local news. Kinda mild and rainy for August...they say it's about 10 degrees below average for this time of year. Anyway, as you are brutally aware of already, everything I see or do brings me back to my current condition. 9.5 months preggo.

Will I give birth on one of these 7 days? How's the weather looking?
I'm thinking the weather on Friday is looking pretty nice. Saturday is going to be a full moon, they say lots of babies are born on full moons, right? Sounds good to me! Monday is 8-18-08. You know how I love the 8's. I think I can hold out that long.

Just PLEASE keep your fingers crossed that I don't have to look at the next 7 days!

Perspective

Apparently, Ava got a hold of my camera at some point. I went to look at some pics I had taken and instead found some of hers.
Funny to see what she thought was photo-worthy!

Lotsa Stuff

I'm tired so this will be brief.

Sibling Class-
I took Ava this morning and it was cute. She proudly wore her pink "Big Sister" shirt and got really into the whole thing. They took the kids on a hospital tour to the nursery where they saw 2 newborn babies. Of course that was a big hit. The kids watched a movie, colored, held doll babies, put on diapers, got a certificate, got a neato "big sister" sticker, had juice & a snack. She was pumped. She was showing the girl next to her how to hold the doll just right....oh dear.

Playroom-
Chet finished the playroom last night. He rocks. What a difference! We went ahead and set up "Mamaw & Papaw's bed" this afternoon. I also realized that we have way too many toys. I'll have to tackle that demon at a later date when I can bend over more easily.

Baby News-
So, I thought I was having a baby last night. I was having contractions again CONSTANTLY. After they had been going on for hours and hours...I realized that I better start paying attention. I started timing them at 8:30, after Ava was snug as a bug. They were every 6, 5, 6, 6, 5, 7, 2, 6, 5, 6, 6....etc for 2 hours. Pretty darn consistent in my book. So around 10:30 I thought I better call the doctor.

You have to realize, I didn't have to do the whole "timing contractions" thing with Ava because my water broke. When your water breaks that basically means - go to the hospital! Now! So this timing thing is all new to me....and it is not an exact science by any means. After he asked me a ton of questions and realized that I wasn't having any pain, he suggested that I try to get some sleep.
So I did. False alarm.

They simmered down a bit for the first part of today. Now though, they are back again. I'm hoping my water breaks again because I've realized that I'm not a big fan of the second hand watch. I'm gonna go lay down. Nighty night.

8-8-08

I love the date today.
I would have loved if today ended up being Dean's birthday.
Eight is my favorite number.
My birthday is October 8.
October isn't the 8th month, but the whole October-Octagon-8 thing.
My softball jersey was often #8.
Chet's hockey number is #88.
Anyway, that's all.
We're fans of the eight.
No beginning, no end. Eternal eight.
It's pretty cool that the Olympics start today too.
Maybe I'll have Dean on 8-18-08.
Regardless, my son will be born in the 8th month of 2008.

Technicals 2

OK, OK...the update.
I had my weekly Dr appt today.
Of course, I was hoping for some progress but I honestly wasn't expecting any. Reason being - in my final 3 weeks with Ava I stayed the exact same- 1 cm dilated, 50% effaced.

WELL, I'm happy to report that there was slight progress! Woohoo!
For comparison sake, at my Dr appt last week I was 1 cm, 70% effaced. Liz said she could feel a definite difference from last week and that my cervix was "very soft". She seemed pretty excited about it actually and said I could go anytime now.

SO, for the record, today I was 1.5 cm dilated, 75% effaced.
Apparently I was "almost 2 cm, but not quite".

Something must be going on. Slowly, but surely.
I went ahead and faithfully scheduled my appt for next Thursday.
I'm hoping that I can spare you a "Technicals 3" post.

Last Post

I wonder when my last post is going to be?
You know, the last one before I'm in the hospital for 2-3 days? Before labor, before delivery. Before I become a mother of 2. Before our whole world completely changes. Before we have a son to love. Before Ava becomes a big sister.

With 18 days till my due date, it's like a waiting game in my mind. Every little sharp pain makes me freeze in my tracks and wonder, could this be it? All I really want to know is:
WHAT?
HOW?
WHEN?

On Sunday, I turn 9.5 months pregnant, 38 weeks. At this point, it would only be fair that I go early, since that's what I've been anticipating all along. As you've heard me mention repeatedly, Ava was 11 days early....so sometime in the next week would fit the bill nicely. 7 days possibly? Could it be that soon again?

Ava has her Sibling Class at the hospital this Saturday, so I'd like to hold off until then. That should be a neat little experience for her. Also, Chet is still working on the playroom... so it would probably be a good idea if that was done before too.

Dean, are you listening to your Mommy? Don't you keep us waiting too long, ya hear? You are getting pretty darn big in there and Mommy is getting a bit maxed out. Go ahead and start getting your things together. You can do it little guy. Can't wait to meet you soon!

Bubble Gum

Alas- I have a toddler tale for you on this lovely Friday afternoon.
First, a bit of background. Aunt Kimmie gave Ava her first stick of sugarless bubble gum at The Burrows Reunion in June. Since then, I've purchased a few packs of gum with Ava in mind...usually strawberry-banana or some other fruity variety. What can I say...she loves it, it's sugarless, she only gets 1/2 a piece, she spits it out, what's the harm?

Well, today in the check-out line I told Ava we could buy a pack. She was all excited and smelled no less than 5 packs before she made her final selection. She waited patiently till we got into the car so she could have her gum. Ava loves to rip the pieces in half herself, so I obliged and she was chewing away...happy as could be.

Well, when we got home I got busy doing what I do and Ava got busy too. She was strolling her dollies around in their baby stroller, purse in hand, chatting, chewing, playing and entertaining herself. I could hear the stroller rolling across the hard floors and I could tell that she was visiting "the store" and "going shopping" and all sorts of fun stuff.

The next thing I knew I walked into the living room and I saw the pack of gum on the sofa. The same pack of 15 pieces that I just bought. The same pack that was tucked away safely in my purse. Well, there is was, open on the sofa...ONE STICK LEFT INSIDE! She just looked at me, chomping away. I held out my hand under her chin and she spit out her gum. She knew something was coming but she wasn't sure what.

We had a long talk about gum and mommy's purse and about being sneaky, etc. Over the next few minutes I discovered approximately 26 little balls of silver foil in her purse and an equal amount of chewed up gum balls in the bathroom trash can. She had torn each piece in half, chewed it for a few minutes, spit it out, then went for another. NICE! I guess I should be happy she didn't swallow it all!!

Of course I wasn't happy about this little discovery but I also couldn't help but find it slightly amusing. I told her that I was going to call Daddy. I did call him and all I could get out of him was, "She's her mother's daughter". ha ha. When I got back in the room Ava wanted to know what Daddy said. I told her no more gum for awhile and that she is not to go into mommy's purse.

She just looked at me and said. "Yeah, you better put it where I can't reach it. Maybe you should put it up with my paints." WHAT??!!??
You gotta love it, a girl who knows her own weaknesses!!
These kids, I tell ya!

HAPPY AUGUST!

Blog or Muse?

Chet is funny.
I think this blog is starting to give me some new insight into his psyche. New insight is hard to come by when you've known someone for 17 years! Yup, you heard me right, 17 years! That number still boggles my mind, by the way! I met him when I was 15 years old and I turn 32 in a few months. At this point, I've known him longer than I haven't known him. Gees, we're getting old!

Anyway, I'm probably going to ruin everything I'm about to tell you because he will read this eventually and then he'll be wise to me. Oh well, I have to say it anyway. Actually, let me just give you an example. Last night when he got home from work he told me that he was going to start working on "the playroom". WHAT? GREAT!

For those who have been to our house, you know that "the playroom" is actually our oversized, 4th bedroom. It's like 2 rooms in 1. Anyway, this room is a real piece of work! The room was last occupied by a pre-teen and she had stuff hung up everywhere. She must have had an aversion to things on her floors. Tons of shelves, a TV, pictures, CD racks...all hung up! Her father was not a handy man and we think he literally ripped it off the walls when they moved out. Then to make matters much worse, he put a ton of the wrong kind of cement- putty- stuff all over the place...glopped it on everywhere! So basically, Chet has to go in there and undo all the wrong that was done and sand and sand and putty and prime and paint, etc. A real pain in the tush room, it is not a small job. Now, Chet has always liked to tackle big projects like this one in the winter months...he even once mentioned hiring this room out (scoff, not Chet!). Needless to say, this room has not been on my radar at all!

Back to my point about the "new insight". When he came home last night and dropped his bomb, it all seemed a bit strange to me. We already sorta have a lot going on. Maybe he needs to re-read my last post...70% effaced, 1 cm dilated? Could it have been my post, 365 days, that gave him a little kick-start? Did realizing it had been a year give him a boost? Did seeing all we've done in writing do it? Is it possible that the blog is serving as a muse for him??? hmmm. It would be kinda like the lists...they really get him going. I dunno...this is just a theory, folks.

All theories aside, he did start the room last night! Yup- he really did!
Ya know, on second thought, maybe all this nesting is just rubbing off on him?
