Okay- this gets me.Ava is well versed in nursery rhymes, like most little ones are. We have several books full of them and she prides herself in knowing them all. So, of course, Star Light, Star Bright is a given.
When we were in Houston over Thanksgiving, we were riding in the back of Mamaw's car on the way to dinner. It was about 5 o'clock and it was just getting dark outside. Cousin Colin was in the backseat with Ava.
Out of nowhere Colin says, "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight." Ava laughed and got excited. Could Colin possibly know this rhyme to? She thought that was so cool. She proceeded to recite the rhyme aloud, giggling.
Then Colin asks, "Did you make a wish?" Ava was perplexed. She didn't know anything about this wish stuff. Colin told her that he makes a wish every night when he sees his first star. He also mentioned that the wishes are a secret and they won't come true if you tell anyone. Ava loved this idea and made her wish.
Since that night, she has made a big deal whenever she happens to notice a star. She yells for me to see her star and recites the rhyme loudly & proudly.
Fast forward a few months. It's a typical weeknight. I see Ava doing her little scurry around the living room, playing and what not. Daddy is about to get home. I am out of her direct line of vision. She skips past the french door in the family room and...wait...she does a double take. Then, freeze.
She stands there. Frozen. Hands on the glass, peering up into the darkening sky. Her long hair grazes her tushy. In her softest voice, she recites the entire rhyme and makes her wish. Not missing a beat, she's off playing again.
My heart gets all warm and fuzzy.
A sweet, little, priceless, mommy moment.
